Our mission is to build a coalition dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural history of the Dunbar Historic District while creating opportunities for community engagement through education, the arts, health and wellness, housing, and economic development.

Goals and Objectives

  1. Preserve Historical Landmarks:

    • Advocate for the preservation and rehabilitation of iconic sites, such as the Florence B. Price Auditorium and the Bush-Dubisson House.
    • Secure funding and grants to restore and maintain historic homes and buildings.
  2. Educate and Inspire:

    • Develop programs and events that educate the public about the district’s historical and cultural significance.
    • Partner with local schools to engage youth in understanding and preserving their heritage.
  3. Foster Community Engagement:

    • Host annual events like the Paul Laurence Dunbar Community Festival to bring residents and visitors together.
    • Create opportunities for residents to participate in community clean-ups, historical tours, and advocacy efforts.
  4. Promote Economic Development:

    • Support local entrepreneurs and businesses through partnerships and events.
    • Explore initiatives to develop affordable housing and tiny home projects to revitalize the neighborhood.
